Today the Jackrabbit Former Players Association, known as the JFPA, is alive and well — but just six years ago, it was only an idea.

“I can’t tell you how many guys on our team when they talk about people that have impacted their career here, his name is at the top of the list,” SDSU Head Coach Jimmy Rogers said of Isaiah Stalbird.

“More than likely if it’s something from a video standpoint coming out of our department, he has his hands on it and that means it’s going to be good,” SDSU Associate Athletic Director of Media Tyler Merriam stated. If you’ve followed Jackrabbit Athletics during the past four years, you may not be familiar with the name Chris McDaniel, but you’ve certainly seen his work.

“Gus Miller is maybe the most underrated O-lineman because no one talks about him and I do believe he’s probably one of the best centers in the country,” SDSU Head Coach Jimmy Rogers said. Today Gus Miller is all about the yellow and blue.. but that wasn’t always the case “My grandparents both went to USD, they met there. My dad played football at USD, he played fullback. And then my mom went to USD. So, growing up we were always USD fans even though we lived here in Brookings which was kind of weird,” SDSU Junior Center Gus Miller said.

"You are starting at punter and as the starting kicker, how difficult is that?" Hunter Dustman was asked. "Well, I think it just goes to show how many people don't do it in Division I. So, I'll leave it at that." Dustman responded with a grin.

When the Redfield football field turns on its lights for the first home football game this year, the sky will even light up. Jessen Heating, Refrigeration Inc., and Electric took on the job of replacing the poles and lighting at the field this summer and worked to ensure the job was completed before the football season began. It took them 8 days to complete the project with consideration of a few windy days in that time.
