Mellette Volunteer Fire Department held their 5th Annual Back-to-School Summer Water Bash on Sat., Aug. 10th. Fire hoses were used to create big sprays of water for the kids to run through. Young people could sit atop a dunk tank, and others could throw tennis balls to try to hit the switch to dump them into the water.
Items for school, such as backpacks and lunchboxes, as well as toys were given away. The top prizes were a girls bike, which was won by Dani Hall; and a boys bike, won by Colt Braun.
Mellette City Park was filled with kids gleefully running around and playing. They ranged from soaking wet to nearly dry. Adults were happy to sit back, watch and socialize. Fall semester at Northwestern Area School will start on Tues., Aug. 20th.
