Jackrabbits clinch share of conference title with dominating win over St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The South Dakota State women clinched at least a share of their 10th regular season Summit League title on Saturday as the Jackrabbits blew out St. Thomas 97-63.

SDSU led 15-7 at the midway point of the first quarter. The Jacks pushed the lead to 25-15 but the Tommies scored the final five points of the quarter and SDSU led 25-20 at the end of the first.

The Jacks then pulled away in the second quarter. They led 36-26 and an 11-0 run pushed the lead to 47-26 with 2:28 left in the first half and SDSU led 52-33 at halftime. The Jacks pushed the lead 61-35 two and a half minutes into the third and then led 73-47 at the end of the quarter. The largest lead of the game for the Jacks came with 3:35 left as they led 93-53.

SDSU shot 67.9% from the field and was 9-of-14 from three. The Jacks had three players score over 20 points. Brooklyn Meyer had 26 points and eight rebounds. Paige Meyer had 23 points and nine assists. Madison Mathiowetz had 20 points and Ellie Colbeck had 11 points.

UST shot 46.4% from the field and was 5-of-19 from three. Sammy Opchika led the Tommies with 15 points. Jade Hill and Jo Langbehn each had 10 points.

SDSU had 30 rebounds and UST had 21. The Jacks had eight turnovers and the Tommies had 11. SDSU was 12-of-16 at the free throw line and UST was 6-of-8 at the charity stripe.

The Jacks improved to 22-5 overall and 14-0 in the Summit League. It was their 45th consecutive regular season victory over Summit League opponents. SDSU will close out the season at home next week against North Dakota on Thursday and North Dakota State this coming Saturday.
