William "Bill" Dean Carlson, 73, of Redfield, SD, passed away at his home on Monday, February 18, 2019. His funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield.

William "Bill" Dean Carlson, 73, of Redfield, SD, passed away at his home on Monday, February 18, 2019.  His funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield.  Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate.   Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., at the funeral home.  Arrangements have been entrusted with Hyke Funeral Home. (www.hykefuneralhome.com)
William “Bill” Dean Carlson was born May 14, 1945, to Carl and June (Carmen) Carlson in Tyler, MN.  In 1949, the family moved to Raymond, SD where Bill attended county school until the fifth grade.  He then went to Raymond Public School until his junior year, at which time he studied for and received his GED.  
In December 1968, he enlisted in the US Army.  In 1972, he married Randee Miller.  To this union, three sons were born.  Bill and Randee made their home in Redfield, SD in 1986 where Bill worked for SD Wheat Growers.  After his retirement, he started B & R Tree Service.  
After Randee’s passing in 1996, Bill married Vera Gross in 1999.  After Vera passed, Bill shared his time with his special friend Shelda Johnson.
Bill enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, and camping.  He was a member of the Clay Kiser American Legion Post 92.  His family will treasure their special memories of a kind, humble, and genuine man who loved spending time with his family.  
Bill is survived by his sons: Corey Carlson; John (Dawn) Carlson, all of Aberdeen, SD; and Bob (Tina) Carlson, Crooks, SD; four grandchildren: Kolton, Kaylee, Riley and Dakotah; and special friend Shelda Johnson and her son Brian (Karen) Johnson and their children Andrew, Kelly and Layne. He is also survived by his sisters: Charlotte (Ray) Hoffman, California; Patty (Fred) Rosenau, Clark, SD; Barb (Ken) Winkler, Iowa; his brothers: Wayne (Paula) Carlson, Brookings, SD; Terry (Angela) Carlson, Minnesota; Mike (Connie) Carlson, Sioux Falls, SD; and Jim (Wanda) Miller, Yankton, SD as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives Randee and Vera; brother Don Carlson; sister Marlene Mundhenke and Shelda’s son, John Johnson.
