Spink County to Serve as “County Issue” Driver License Site

REDFIELD, S.D. – Spink County will become a “county issue” site for driver licenses beginning February 19, 2020.

The state’s Driver License exam station in Redfield closed in August 2017. South Dakota Driver License officials have approved the Spink County request to become a “county issue” site.

As a county issue site, Spink County officials can process driver’s license and ID card applications, conduct vision screening for driver’s license applicants and administer the knowledge and drive tests. County issue sites are unable to serve first time CDL applicants, CDL applicants with hazardous material endorsements and non-citizens. Licenses and ID’s processed at a county issue site are not issued immediately but are printed and mailed to the driver within a few weeks (a temporary permit is issued at the county site).

The Spink County site will be located at the Spink County’s Auditor Office located on second floor of the Spink County Courthouse, 210 E 7th Ave, Redfield. Hours are the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month from 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM.  Drive tests are by appointment only.
