Redfield's Hometown Shopko to close by the end of February along with 39 stores companywide

News of Shopko closing broke in Redfield on Wednesday, December 5th and word traveled quickly.  By the end of of Thursday, Dec.6th nearly 3,000 people had viewed the notice on the Redfield Press's Facebook page stating that going-out-of-business sales would begin on Friday, December 7th.
Redfield's Hometown Shopko store is one of 39 stores companywide that will be closing by the end of February, 2019 due to a "long-term outlook on profitability, sales trends and growth potential."
This is only a portion of the 363 stores Shopko operates in 24 states. Four of the stores that are closing are in South Dakota. Besides Redfield, these stores include Hometown Shopkos in Dell Rapids, Wagner and Webster.
According to Shopko spokeswoman, Michelle Hansen, each store has 10 to 25 employees. She said that Shopko will assist those who are interested in transferring to positions at other Shopko locations or provide severance benefits. In South Dakota, fifteen Shopkos will remain after the store closings.
Shopko was founded in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1962. In 2005, it was acquired by an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, an investment firm focused on buyouts, equity and debt.
