Redfield Carnegie Library stays busy during pandemic

By Shiloh Appel

Librarian Sarah Lutter said on Friday, April 3rd that the library continues to automatically renew overdue books and library cards and waive fines during the pandemic. Currently, the due date on all books has been extended to May 4th. Every week, library staff re-evaluate whether they will stay open for the following week.

As for whether or not more people are using the library’s curb-side service during the pandemic, Lutter said it is hard to tell. The library uses large totes from Dollar General which are placed under the book slot to catch all returned books. Lutter said one to two totes are filled up with returned books every day. Due to the automatic renewals, Lutter didn’t have an exact estimate on how many books are being checked out each day, but she said it is relatively the same amount as when the library was open for walk-ins.

The library is open for curb-side service from 12p.m. to 5p.m. on Fridays, 10a.m. to 4p.m. on Saturdays, 12 to 8p.m. on Mondays, 10a.m. to 12p.m. and 1p.m. to 8p.m. on Tuesdays, and 12 to 5p.m. on Wednesdays. On Thursdays, they are open from 10a.m. to 12p.m. and 1p.m. to 5p.m.
