John Pearl ODaniel, 89, of Redfield, SD, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield.
Visitation, with the family present. will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. A prayer service and time of sharing will begin at 7:00 p.m.
John’s funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, at Hyke Funeral Home with Pastor Melissa Rowenhorst officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery in Athol, SD. Lunch will then be served at the Community Center in Ashton, SD.

John was born on the family farm in Ashton, SD, on September 13, 1935, to Robert and Flora (Bymers) ODaniel.
He graduated from Ashton High School. He married Yvonne Galvin on May 29, 1957, in Athol; she was the love of his life. They were married for almost 59 years. Yvonne passed away on February 14, 2016. To this union, they were blessed with three children. Together they loved to travel, and traveled to all of the lower 48 states, along with going to Canada and Mexico. They wintered together in Arizona for almost 41 years. They spent many years together driving around sightseeing and driving around Redfield and the surrounding area nightly.
John was very active in the community, serving on the S.D.W.G. Board for 15 years. As a young man, he spent time in Kansas working for a soybean mill, and in California working for Boeing building B24 Bombers.
John is survived by his two sons: Jeff (Kay) ODaniel of Redfield and Mike (Debbie) ODaniel of Athol; five grandchildren: Heather (Landon) Roach and their children: Kyleigh, Lennyx, Alyvia, Phynlee, Layton, and Rayna; Jason (Tifani) ODaniel and their children: Paige, Deklyn, and Davyna; David (Casi) ODaniel and their children: Kiara and Tristen; Joel (Megan) ODaniel and their children: Beckett and Fiona; and Sara ODaniel and her daughters: Savannah, Cassidy, and Legacy.
John was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne, daughter Mary Beth ODaniel, sister Mae Decker, and his great-grandson Oliver John ODaniel.
