Kathleen Shirley Miller, 82, of Spearfish and formerly of Sturgis, died on June 30, 2013, at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 5, 2013, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Burial followed at Black Hills National Cemetery.
She was born on July 28, 1930, in Rockham, SD to Alvin & Marie (Worman) Buss. She grew up on her family’s farm in the Rockham area and graduated from Redfield High School in 1948. On June 12, 1952, she married Donald Leroy Miller in Redfield, SD. She resided in Chamberlain for 19 years, then in Mitchell for 8 years, then moved to Orem, Utah, and later retired in Sturgis. After her marriage, she joined the Roman Catholic Church and was a long-time parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Sturgis.
Kathy worked as a staff RN at Chamberlain Community Hospital, school nurse at St. Joseph Indian School in Chamberlain, clinic RN at Chamberlain Clinic, charge nurse at Firesteel Heights Nursing Home in Mitchell, Brady Memorial Nursing Home in Mitchell, and Utah State Mental Hospital in Provo, UT.
She is survived by her husband, Donald of Spearfish, SD; daughter, Nancy (John) Gruidl, Macomb, IL; son, Timothy Miller, Mitchell; daughter, Theresa (Christopher) Tsoi, Ft. Collins, CO; son, Robert Miller, Salt Lake City, UT; daughter, Mary McElroy, Spokane, WA; daughter, Patricia McGee, Rapid City; daughter, Susan (John) Bird, Chanhassen, MN; fourteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Curtis Buss and her sister, Corrine Hunstad.
A memorial has been established to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis.
