Leila Aileen Jungwirth, 94, of Redfield, SD, died July 8, 2013 at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Zell. Father Christopher Hughes will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Leila was born on February 11, 1919 to Ed and Ethel (Swope) Eidsness at the farm near Cottonwood Lake. She was the oldest of 7 children. Her important job on the farm was milking the cows. She also shocked grain and helped with the other chores on the farm. Leila was married to Bernard Jungwirth on January 20, 1937. They had 2 children Janice and Terry. They lived in Redfield and later moved to Zell where they purchased a farm. Leila enjoyed spending time with her family, raising sheep, chickens and geese. She loved her ceramics and enjoyed teaching ceramic classes.
Leila is survived by her daughter-in-law, Shirley Jungwirth of Zell; a son-in-law Bob Clement of LaCrosse, WI; 8 grandchildren: Lori (Paul) Schuh of Hillsboro, ND, Bill (Marcy) Hericks of Wenatchee, WA, Timothy (Jodi) Jungwirth of Tulare, Kimberly (John) Fanning of St. Lawrence, SD, David (Jeanne) Hericks of Manassas, VA, Sue (Perry) Boniek of Ellendale, ND, Karla (Kevin) O’Daniel of Zell, Kevin (Rachelle) Hericks of Watertown, SD. She is also survived by 26 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Lois Stemper and Irene Nix; 1 brother Floyd Eidsness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bernard Jungwirth; 2 children Janice Hericks-Clement and Terry Jungwirth; grandsons Jerry Jungwirth and Todd Jungwirth; 3 sisters Lucille Harr, Marion Hansen and Ginny Stapp.
