CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) officers from around the state met at the Mitchell Technical Institute on June 3rd and 4th for leadership training. Twenty-six state officers representing FCCLA, FFA, FBLA, DECA, and Skills USA were in attendance. South Dakota Department of Education and the Division of Curriculum, Career, and Technical Education sponsored the event. Leadership trainer Nick Palkowski presented the workshop. The students participated in a variety of team building activities to enhance their leadership skills. Business professionals talked with students on how to improve communication between youth and adults. The state officers and their advisers attended an etiquette dinner Monday evening at The Brig where students learned the finer points on how to be courteous and respectful at business dinners. The state officers came away with increased leadership and communication skills to use in their respective officer positions during the upcoming year.

Emma Gruenwald, Kaley Schweitzer from the Redfield FCCLA Chapter attended the CTSO training. Emma is State First Vice President of Membership and Kaley is State Junior High Representative is currently serving on the South Dakota FCCLA Executive Council. They looks forward to representing District VII and Redfield at the state level. Emma and Kaley, along with the other nine state officers, will attend the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN, in July. There they will have the opportunity to meet state officers from around the nation as they represent South Dakota at the national level.
