Memorial Service for Katharine Mae Hartung, 83, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen with Katharine’s granddaughter, Pastor Sarah Goldammer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery, Aberdeen. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow the interment at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center.
Katharine passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 of natural causes at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.
Katharine Mae Johnson was born in Redfield, South Dakota to John William “Will” and Alva (Rabuck) Johnson on February 5, 1929. She graduated from Redfield High School in 1947. After high school, Katharine moved to Los Angeles, CA, where she began working as a telephone operator. One year later she moved back to Redfield, SD and continued working for the telephone company.
Katharine married Matthias Anthony Hartung on July 13, 1950 at Redfield, SD. They moved to Aberdeen in 1960, where she worked as a supervisor in Dietary at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital until retiring in 1994.
Katharine enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed cooking and baking, playing cards with friends, going on picnics and traveling. She loved researching genealogy and pictures. Katharine touched many people’s lives and will be missed by many.
Katharine is survived by her children, Peggy (John) Blanchard of Tupelo, OK, Dennis (Marion) Hartung of Aberdeen, Matt Jr. (Sherry) Hartung of Omaha, NE and Ted (Rhonda) Hartung of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren, Kim Mata of Ada, OK, Mike Kent of Tupelo, OK, Scott (Jessica) Hartung of Aberdeen, Jennifer (Eric) Almquist of Kansas City, MO, Jill (Tom) Dworshak of Black Hawk, SD, Ryan Hartung of Omaha, NE, Sarah (Eric) Goldammer of Pierre, SD and Todd (Lauren) Hartung of Omaha, NE; fourteen great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
Katharine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Clinton Johnson, sister, Genene Hornsby and brother Glenn Johnson.
