For the past month I have been running behind. It’s my own fault but in my defense I cannot help it. Over a month ago the Redfield Area chamber of Commerce approached me with an idea for a new feature, the Chamber Spotlight (see page 5 and 11A).
Anyway, to my way of thinking, this meant that I had to really dig in and do some research on the history of a particular store in Redfield, which I have to confess, I really love. However, that research involved a lot of calls and a lot of review of the old bound newspaper books. I had so much fun digging in them and ferreting out clues, too much fun in fact. Then it became an obsession and I had to find the information. I thought if I could just find some more history it would be different.
Perhaps it would be different if I had always lived here and knew that things had taken place but wasn’t sure when. In the past would be good enough. However, that’s not the case. I didn’t grow up here and the history fascinates me. I hope you enjoy what I was able to find on this particular spotlight. In the future there will be more as well as some of the treasures I have unearthed along the way.
Oh, and by the way, if by chance you can recall what year the second and third floors were removed from Gambles or the year that the Harlan Packard Hotel was taken down, give me a call or drop me a note. I now know for sure when it wasn’t. I’d love to know when it was.
