Redfield Dairy Queen defeated Aurora and Castlewood in winning the district championship, August 3 and 4 in Castlewood. Dairy Queen had 16 hits in defeating Aurora 13-6, Saturday, August 3. Redfield broke the game open, scoring eight runs in the sixth inning. Luke Holt started for Dairy Queen and pitched five and two-third innings. Coach Kurt Permann said Isaac Lukes pitched three and a third innings to pick up the win. “Two young guys pitched decent games for Dairy Queen today.” Lukes improved his record to 4-1. Edgar Tovar had four hits, including a double. Brendon Hoellein had a home run, two singles and two RBIs. Chris Studer had two RBIs. Justin Downes had a double and a single. Kelly Coates had two hits and two RBIs. Joel Osborn had two hits. Coach Permann said, “It was a good win for Dairy Queen, playing in its first Class A District.” Keith Gall went the distance on Sunday as Dairy Queen rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth to defeat Castlewood 5-4. Coach Permann said Gall improved his record to 7-0 for the season. “Gall gave up only seven hits in nine innings and struck out five.” Edgar Tovar and Chris Studer each had three hits. Keith Gall had a double. Brendon Hoellein had three RBIs. Joel Osborn had two hits. Coach Permann said Dairy Queen will play Vermillion in the regional tournament in Rapid City. “We play Vermillion at 5:30 on Friday.
