Redfield Area tracksters competed in the annual Hershey Track Meet on June 12, 2013 at the Redfield High School Track. Youth athletes ages 9-14 from Redfield, Ashton, Brentford, Northville, Faulkton, Onaka, St. Lawrence, and Miller competed for the right to advance to the State Hershey Track Meet to be held June 22 in Belle Fourche, SD.
Hannah Schentzel was a triple winner for the Northville competitors in the girls age 9-10 bracket. Schentzel won the standing long jump with a leap of 59, the 100-meter dash in a time of :17.19, and the 200-meter dash in a time of :37.76. Ally Cunningham of Faulkton turned in a duo of second place efforts in a time of :18.56 in the 100-meter dash and a jump of 53 ¼ . Cunningham won the girls 50-meter dash in :8.13 seconds. Also placing in the long jump was Kayla Jordan in third with a jump of 40. Jordan also took the victory in the 400-meter dash in 1:41.90 and earned the third spot in the 100-meter dash in a time of :18.57.
In the Boys 9-10 age group, Dylan Whitley grabbed a trio of blue ribbons winning the softball throw with a toss of 103 7 ½, the 50-meter dash in :7.22, and the 400-meter dash in 1:14.92. Justin Haven of Brentford took home victories in the standing long jump in 58 and the 200-meter dash in :33.58. Sean Domke earned a pair of second place finishes in the softball throw in 88 11 ½ and the 100-meter dash in :17.49 while Jacob Fehlman of Ashton also earned two red ribbons in the standing long jump in 5 5 ½ and the 50-meter dash in :8.20 seconds. Brady Jordan made his Hershey debut winning the 100-meter dash in :17.39 seconds, and finished second in the boys 400-meter dash in 1:24.02. Jordan also competed in the long jump earning 5th with a jump of 4 8. Fellow 3rd grader Cole Schroeder earned two thirds and a fourth place in the 100-meter dash in :17.73, the standing long jump in 5 4, and the 400-meter dash in 1:27.80 respectively. Also placing in the 9-10 age-group was Talon Hicks of Redfield placing third in the 50-meter dash in :8.40, 5th in the 100-meter dash, :20.89, and 4th in softball throw in 45 5 ½. Corbin Schwartz and Sam Groft rounded out the field for 9-10 year-olds with Groft placing 4th in the 200-meter dash in :39.35, 7th in the 400-meter dash in 1:46.10, and 4th in the standing long jump in 4 11 ½. Schwartz added a third place finish and state qualifying mark in the softball throw with a toss of 68 6, and a 5th place effort in the 200-meter dash in :39.85. Schwartz also placed 6th in the 400-meter run in 1:39.27.
Abigail Vetch of Onaka earned three blue ribbons in the Redfield Girls 11-12 age group placing first in the standing long jump at 62 ¾, the 100-meter dash in :16.21, and the 200-meter dash in :34.54. Jenna Fulton of St. Lawrence won the softball throw with an effort of 71 11 ½. Fulton also added a 2nd place finish in the 100-meter dash in :19.88 seconds. Madalyn Groft of Ashton won the 400-meter dash (1:35.16) and the 800-meter run (3:31.69) and took silver in the standing long jump in 4 11 ½ .
In the boys 11-12 age group, Gannon Pudwill ran away with two victories in the 200 and 400-meter dashes (:31.09) and (1:09.66) respectively. Zechariah Clemens of Northville added a victory in the 100-meter dash in :14.90 seconds, and added a pair of second place finishes in the 400-meter run (1:11.92) and the softball throw in 129 5 ½.
Isaac Suchor and Austin Haider-Likness each brought home a first place ribbon in the standing long jump 5 1 ¾ and 132 9 ½ respectively. Suchor also placed 4th in the 100-meter dash in :17.16, and 3rd in the 200-meter dash in :33.88 seconds. Haider-Likness placed 3rd in the 400-meter run in 1:22.56 and 4th in the 200-meter dash in :36.06. Tavian Hicks of Redfield was the runner-up champion in both the 100-meter dash in :15.14 and the 200-meter dash in :32.75 seconds. Hicks also placed 5th in the softball throw in 95 11 ½. Other place-winners in the boys 11-12 bracket included Jace Haven of Brentford, 2nd standing long jump 5 9, 5th 200-meter dash (:37.02), and 4th in the 400-meter dash, 1:23.09; Ivan Blume of Redfield, 3rd standing long jump 5 7 ¼, and 5th in the 100-meter dash (:19.24). Dillon Fliehe added a pair of thirds in the 100-meter dash (:15.38) and the softball throw in 116 4. Fliehe also placed 6th in the 200-meter dash in :37.51 seconds.
In the Redfield Girls 13-14 age bracket, Nicolette Schmidt won three events including the standing long jump with a leap of 610, the 800-meter run in 2:35.33, and the 1600-meter run in 6:01.31. Shaly Werdel of Miller also won 100-meter dash in :14.90, and the softball throw with an 139 1/2 mark, while Peyton Groft earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the 800-meter run in 2:54.89 and the 1600-meter run in 6:23.10. A trio of Miller-area athletes claimed the remaining places including Karly Beckett, 2nd in the 100-meter dash (:15.62), 3rd in the softball throw in 104 10 ½, and first in the 4x100 meter relay; Teanna Pawlowski, 3rd in the 100-meter dash (:16.14), 2nd in the softball throw in 118, and first in the 4x100 meter relay, Mackalyn Fulton, 4th in the 100-meter dash (:16.78), 4th in the softball throw in 100 10, and first in the 4 x 100 meter relay, and Annie Keeter, first in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 1:05.01.
In the boys 13-14 age group, Nathan Vetch of Onaka, SD and Caleb Schentzel of Northville, SD each took home a pair of victories. Vetch won the 200-meter and 800-meter dashes in :32.47 and 2:35.85 respectively while Schentzel won the 1600-meter run in 6:33.22 and the standing long jump in 63. Schentzel also placed 3rd in the 800-meter run in 2:56.06. Zach Jordan of Redfield took second place honors in the 800-meter run in 2:54.18.
The top three athletes in each age bracket for Redfield and Redfield Area will advance to the State Hershey Track Meet held June 22nd at in Belle Fourche, SD. First place winners at the state level will have their times and marks turned in to a selection committee representing an eight-state region for selection of the National Team that travels to compete at the National Hershey Track Meet in Hershey, PA in August 2013.
