The Redfield VFW Post 2755 Varsity Teeners played their third extra innings game in a row when they hosted the Warner Teeners for a double header July 11. Our friends from Warner came out ahead in the opener by a score of 6 to 5 while Redfield took control of the nightcap 8 to 0.
In the first game Warner came out with a strong running game and scored 1 run in the first inning and 1 in the second and then 2 in the fifth. Redfield answered with 1 run in the first inning and then 3 in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score. Warner scored 2 after two outs in the top of the eighth inning on a walk, a hit batsman and a single. Redfield tried to battle back with a walk and a double followed by a Warner error. Redfield died with a runner on second when the joy left Mudville as mighty Casey had struck out. Ephram Albrecht and Evin Millar shared mound duties for Redfield giving up only 3 hits between them. Ephram lead the Redfield attack with a double and two singles with Landon Rohlfs and Oliver Farmen each adding a double. Brayden Thares pitched 7 good innings for Warner with Dustin Northrup and Kade Hallenbeck each collecting a double.
In the second game Redfield took charge of the game with 2 runs in the third inning and 6 in the fourth. Warner mounted a rally in the fifth but could not score. Daniel Evans earned his way into the Redfield pitching rotation with five strong innings on the mound giving up 1 hit and striking out 7. Lane Peterman lead the Redfield offense with 2 singles with Ephram Albrecht hitting a booming triple and with Kyle Stover, Brady Chase and Daniel each contributing a double. In the fourth inning with no outs and runners on first and second Alex Lyren put down a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance the runners into scoring position. Ethan Westby took the mound for Warner while Chance Torrence slammed a triple for Warner’s only hit. The game ended with an unusual interference call and a tag behind home plate.
The double header scheduled at Northville July 15 was cancelled due to heat index of 112.
