The Redfield VFW Post 2755 Varsity Teeners completed the first third of the regular season by splitting a double header with Groton June 13 and then splitting a double header with Sisseton June 17 all on the home field. The Teeners record is now 6 wins against 4 losses.
The Teeners gave one away to Groton with shaky pitching and defense in the opener where the visitors got 15 runs on 7 hits and 9 walks. Groton pitcher Nick Dalchow held Redfield to 3 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks. Nick was the only player with multiple hits.
In the night cap Ephram Albrecht went the distance on the mound for Redfield in a strong performance giving up 4 hits while striking out 3 and walking 5. Ephram also lead the Redfield offense with a triple and double and stretching an error at first base into 3 bases. Brady Chase contributed 2 singles with Lane Peterman and Oliver Farmen each adding a single. In the final inning Daniel Evans fielded a single from Groton’s Kasey Kurtz in right field and fired a perfect strike to Christian Lewis at third base to tag out Spencer Knecht trying to move from first to third on the hit. This play quelled the late Groton rally to seal the game. Alec Oleson started on the mound for Groton. Kasey had 2 singles for Groton.
In the first Sisseton game Lane Peterman took the mound for Redfield allowing 7 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6. Ephram Albrecht led the Redfield attack with two doubles while Kyle Stover contributed a double and single and Christian Lewis added two singles. Sully Masat lined a double to the fence in left field and Daniel Evans stroked a sharp single to center. Two Sisseton pitchers shared the mound with the seven hits distributed among seven players.
To finish the day Kyle Stover went the distance for Redfield in his best pitching performance of the young season. Kyle allowed 4 runs on 1 hit while striking out 6 and walking 2. Daniel Evans stroked the only 2 hits for Redfield. Walks, hit batsmen, and errors were the order of the game. Redfield opened with 4 runs in the first inning and then added 1 run in the second, third, and forth innings. Sisseton tallied 3 runs in the forth and one in the fifth.
Redfield will travel to Ellendale June 23 and 24 to participate in the Johnson Memorial Tournament. Redfield will open against Oaks at 1:00 p.m. and then take on Ellendale at 5:00 Saturday in pool play.
