VFW Post 2755 Varsity Teeners opening day

The Redfield VFW Post 2755 Varsity Teeners opened their 2012 season hosting Northville in a perfect night for baseball for a double header May 31. Redfield took both ends of the double header by scores of 13 to 2 and 12 to 9. All 10 Redfield players in the games had clean base hits.

In the opener Lane Peterman pitched a three hitter striking out 10 batters while giving up 4 walks. Christian Lewis lead the offense for Redfield with three hits including a loud double. Lane Peterman, Christian Boomsma, and Sully Masat each contributed two hits. Evan Finley took the mound for Northville. Ethan Bauer, Corbin Smith, and Evan each had a single.

In the night cap Kyle Stover took the hill for 4 innings with relief from Christian Boomsma and Evin Millar. Redfield pitchers allowed only 4 hits but walks and hit batsmen added to Northville’s total. Christian Boomsma and Oliver Farmen led Redfield’s attack with 2 hits each. Lane Peterman made a sparkling play in the second inning by making an over the shoulder catch of a flare in short center field and then firing a throw to second base to catch a Northville base runner off base for a double play. Oliver Farmen also made a nifty defensive play by backhanding a sharply hit one bouncer to his left and then making a solid throw to first base to get the runner. Nolan Peterson started the game on the mound for Northville with relief from two teammates. Troy Vilhauer, Logan S. and Nolan had singles for Northville with Corbin Smith contributing a double.

Redfield traveled to Warner June 3 for a double header. Redfield and Warner split the twin bill with Warner winning the opener by a score of 11 to 10 and with Redfield taking the night cap 9 to 8. Both games were very competitive with tie scores 4 times. In the first game both teams totaled 10 hits and in the second Redfield had 9 hits and Warner had 5.

In the first game Evin Millar started on the mound for Redfield with relief from Ephram Albrecht. Oliver Farmen lead the offense with his first Teener home run that cleared the left field fence with ease along with a single. Brady Chase also launched a home run over the right field fence while Sully Masat contributed two singles. Dustin Northrup took the mound for Warner with a strong performance. Gavin Stuchl homered and singled while Chance Torrance added a double and single and Brady Hallenbeck had two singles.

In the second game Kyle Stover went the distance on the hill over the five innings giving up five hits. Brady Chase lead the Redfield attack with a booming home run and a sharp single. Lane Peterman hit a grand slam home run in the fifth inning that proved to be the winning runs. Christian Lewis added two singles. Brady Chase stole home. Chance Torrance opened the first inning for Warner with a home run and then added a single. Jarrick Borge had two singles.

The Redfield Varsity Teeners will travel to Tyndall/Tabor for a 4 team tournament June 9 and then host Groton June 13.
