A spirit of celebration was present at the Eastern Star Home Easter party on Friday afternoon. Cheryl Bowar from Miranda provided our special music as we sang along with our favorite hymns. We feasted on many Easter refreshments including Birds Nests, Deviled Chicks, Cheese Puff Carrots, Cheese ‘N Crackers and Relishes. Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time!
Tickets donated by Chad Lee Trucking of Redfield made it possible for a number of our residents and family members to attend the Yelduz Shrine Circus in Aberdeen over the weekend. We thank Chad for remembering us in this special way. Thanks also to Wendi, Hannah and Oliva Owens for providing transportation and companionship during this fun out-of-town excursion.
The Gilbert Gals from Hitchcock (Ellen Kay Haigh and Carol Carlson) are two of the most faithful Eastern Star Home volunteers. During the past week they not only led our Busy Fingers group in decorating Easter eggs, but also dedicated a day to assisting Lisa in organizing our activities storage and holiday decorations in the Masonic Building basement. Their efforts do no go unnoticed!
Ray Ernster provided this week’s Wednesday afternoon special music. We thank him for sharing his outstanding talent on the piano keyboard. Cameron Eichler from Eichler Hearing Center in Aberdeen was also here on Wednesday to present a class in to assisted living and apartment residents on how to use an IPAD. Thanks also to Pastor Tim Vorlage of the Hitchcock United Methodist Church for conducting our Easter Sunday service and Father Christopher Hughes for providing Catholic Mass on Wednesday morning.
Our facility was so lucky to have so many family and friends visit throughout the Easter weekend. Saturday afternoon Bingo was extra special with Easter treats for prizes sponsored by Ada Rae Harford. Sandy Woodring was the Blackout Bingo winner.
This afternoon we invite you to join us as we Cruise to the Western Caribbean. Dr Owens, Wendi and Lisa will tell us about their recent trip cruise to Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico. Thursday afternoon we will join with Arlene Nielson in celebrating her birthday with a party in our dining room. Wheel of Fortune featuring word of Spring will be held on Friday afternoon.
Our sympathy is extended to the family of Ruby Hollenbeck who passed away on March 23rd at the age of 101. Funeral services were held for her in the Eastern Star Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 26th. Ruby had resided at our facility since February of 1997. We are grateful for those years of her life that she share with us.For the complete article see the 04-03-2013 issue.
