Posted: Thursday, Apr 18th, 2013

The new Redfield Food Center is moving along with great speed. The front of the store will soon have a sign to adorn it. Lots of work is still to be done before the store can offically open. DEREK KEELING | REDFIELD PRESS

The Redfield Food Center is progressing at a steady pace.

A majority of the Redfield and surrounding community are curious as to when the new Redfield Food Center will open.

According to the Redfield Food Center store manager, Dave Knigge, Its coming soon.

Knigge is hesitant to give a definitive date due to unforeseen construction issues, but ensures that the store will open in the near future.

The Redfield Food Center has received numerous upgrades during the construction. New and more efficient lighting, new flooring, new drywall, new ventilation, and a new rack system to name a few.

The entire building has also been expanded. Back when the store was Sieglings it was smaller and also featured a small strip mall. Construction crews have removed the wall separating the strip mall area from the main building. This has made for a much more open and bigger building. Although Knigge notes that it is roughly the same amount of square footage as the current Food Pride store.

Knigge has the daunting task of trying to move inventory from one store to the next, while maintaining business for the community. We ask that customers be patient while we transition, Knigge said.

He also makes mention that customers will notice a depletion in the inventory at the current location. This is because Knigge is trying to run down the inventory to make the transition easier.

A public hearing has been set for the transfer of the Food Pride liquor license. The date is set for Monday, April 15 at the City Council meeting at 7:00 p.m.

Knigge also noted that customers can expect a better selection of almost everything once the new store is up and running.
