A City Council meeting took place on Monday, March 18.
The meeting had a total of three visitors. The first one to present a case to the council was George Larsen. Larsen came to discuss the water quality of W.E.B. water. Larsen bought a brand new humidifier and noticed that a white film began to develop. He then ran a total of ten gallons through the machine and produced a sample to present the council. He stated that the residue might be lime, but wanted it to be tested. Some council members insisted that they have never seen such a film with their humidifiers but ultimately decided to have the sample tested.
The next visitor was Lorah Houser-Jankord. She requested that the city allow her and the Ministerial Association to be allowed a plot of land in the cemetery to bury bibles. She mentioned that numerous churches have old bibles that need to be properly disposed of and that burning or burying are the two respectful way. She has decided that burying is the most respectful way to dispose of bibles. The council granted her wish and set a date for April 19 depending on the weather and ground conditions.
The last visitor was Robert Nelson, who was there to plead for a variance application. Nelson wants to build a steel building on 7th Ave. He got the approval of the council and will be able to build his structure.
The council then discussed various outlets for street lights around town. Three main spots were discussed: the Library, the VFW, and the Depot. Each place would get outlets for street lights for decorative purposes. A total of 21 lights would be installed at a cost of $1,623. Money for the lights is properly allotted in the street light budget.
The last main order of business was Christmas decorations. The council decided it was time to upgrade the bows they place on poles during the Christmas season. The old bows were falling apart and the new ones to be ordered at all-weather and come with warranties. For the complete article see the 03-20-2013 issue.
