Alyssa Osborn and Miranda Tracy, students in Redfield training as part of the Area Health Education Center Rural Experiences for Health Professions Students Program through the Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota were at The Golden Days Senior Center the morning of Tuesday, June 27 and that evening at Alco checking blood sugar and blood pressure as part of their community project requirement.
The two students who arrived the beginning of June are in their final week of training in Redfield where they have been taking an active role. Miranda, a medical student, has been shadowing Dr. Owens and Alyssa, a pharmacy student, has been in Randall Pharmacy.
The purpose of the AHEC program is to recruit, train, and retain a health professions workforce committed to serving underserved populations in rural areas.
