Terrence "Terry" Shantz, age 71, of Redfield, SD, passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at his residence in Redfield, SD.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Redfield.  Pastor Melissa Rowenhorst will officiate.  Music will be provided by Lyn Munce-Flint.  The funeral service will be live-streamed via our website.

   Visitation will be at the United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 9, 2023, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m.

   Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield at a later date.  Honorary pallbearers will be Devin Glass, Joey Haskell, Terry Jandel, Glen Flattum, Hudson Shantz, Lainey Haider and all the lil Darlings Daycare Children Papa Terry loved. Active pallbearers will be Taylor Shantz, Thomas Shantz, Gradyn Binger, Kingston Glass, Ty Haskell, and Kolton Haider.

   Terrence was born on April 27, 1952, in Redfield, SD, to Emery and Alvira (Deiter) Shantz.  Terry grew up and attended Redfield Public School.

   On August 5, 1972, he married the love of his life Sharon Schlegel in Watertown, SD to which three children were born; Misti, Kandi and Toni.  Terry, Sharon and their three daughters resided in Redfield, SD where Terry was an avid carpenter.  After working with his brothers; Jerry and Paul, Terry started his own construction business, Shantz Construction.  Terry was a member of the Redfield Volunteer Fire Department and United Methodist Church. In 1998 Terry suffered a heart attack which put him in retirement from construction.  Due to retirement Terry was able to spend more time with his family.  He enjoyed taking his three daughters fishing, hunting and camping. As the children grew older, Terry was blessed with eleven grandchildren and two great-grand children, whom were the loves of his life.  He spent many hours on the bleachers cheering on his favorite participants.  Terry spent countless hours hunting big game and fishing. Terry was a family man. He always had time for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his beautiful wife of 50 years.  He was known to be a prankster and had a way with words that made us all laugh.  He had such a big heart of gold and was loved by all who met him.

   Terry is survived by his wife, Sharon, Redfield; three daughters, Kandi (Joey Haskell) Shantz, Redfield, SD, Toni (Devin) Glass, Redfield, SD, Misti Shantz, Redfield, SD; four brothers, Loren (Holly) Shantz, Pierre, SD, Jerry (Marlene) Shantz, Pierre, SD, David (Eva) Shantz, Monticello, AR, Paul (Gleann) Shantz, Zell, SD; one sister, Maryann Pinard, Redfield, SD; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

   Terry was preceded in death by his parents. Emery and Alvira; three infant children; two nephews, JR Schlegel, River Ludemann; grandchild, Camdyn Binger; and mother and father in law, Robert and Bernice Schlegel.
