Teresa Renae Gross, 57, of Hitchcock, SD, passed away at home on Friday, November 3, 2023, following a long battle with cancer.

Her memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Hitchcock Methodist Church in Hitchcock, with Reverend Steven Behrens officiating.  Lunch and fellowship will follow her service in the church hall.

Teresa's service will be live-streamed on the Hitchcock Methodist Church Facebook page.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Teresa was born on February 15, 1966, in Rapid City, SD, to Jerry Greer and Carol Carlson.

Teresa attended school in Bakersfield, CA, and graduated in 1983.  She graduated from nursing school in Oklahoma in 1997 then moved to South Dakota.  She was an RN and worked at the Eastern Star Nursing Home in Redfield for 17 years.  Then, in 2021, resigned due to health issues.  The residents and staff loved Teresa with her quiet and peaceful personality.

Teresa married Gene Carr in 1985.  They had two daughters, Cindel and Tabitha.

In 2016, Teresa married Mark Gross.  They lived in Redfield before moving to Hitchcock.

Teresa loved to read and has a “library” full of many, many books.  She enjoyed spending time at Cottonwood Lake with Mark, family, and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her numerous extended family, which included many aunts and uncles; 51 cousins and spouses; and 254 great- and great-great-nieces and nephews and their spouses.  Teresa was known for her sweet personality!  She always considered other people’s needs and feelings before her own.

Grateful for having shared in Teresa's life are her husband, Mark Gross, Hitchcock; two daughters: Cindel (Shawn) Selby, Atoka, OK, and Tabitha Carr, Huron, SD; step-son, Shane (Jenae) Gross, Tulare; step-daughter, Autumn (Tyler) Faber, Orange City, IA; mother, Carol Carlson, Hitchcock, SD; and father, Jerry Greer, Bakersfield, CA. She is also survived by one step-sister, Debbie (Chris) Chadwick, San Diego, CA; one step-brother, Brian Carlson, Santa Maria, CA; one granddaughter; five grandsons; and father-in-law, Duane Gross, Tulare.

Teresa was preceded in death by her step-mother, Judy Greer; her step-father, Richard Carlson; step-sister, Julie Carlson; and mother-in-law Naomi Gross.
