Shirley Jean (Hanson) Felchle, 86, of Redfield, SD, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Community Memorial Hospital Avera in Redfield.  Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Redfield.  Pastor Joy Proper will officiate.  Following the service, her committal service will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.  After the committal, lunch will be served in the church hall.

   Shirley Jean Hanson was born March 28, 1937, in Webster, SD, to Arthur and Thelma (Hagen) Hanson.  She was raised on a farm and attended school in Lily, SD.  She completed her high school education at Augustana Academy at Canton, SD.  After graduation, Shirley worked in several cafes and worked as a bookkeeper for the bank in Clark, SD and worked at the Nursing Home in Redfield for 28 years.

   On December 30, 1956, Shirley married Robert Nichols in Canton.  To this union, five boys were born: Ron, Doug, Bill, David, and Mike. 

   In 1977, Shirley moved to Redfield, SD and went to work at the James Valley Nursing Home.  She enjoyed her job caring for the residents and found it very rewarding. 

   Shirley married Ellsworth “Al” Felchle on May 26, 1979, and they made their home in Redfield.  She enjoyed the trips that she and Al went on and getting together with family.

   Shirley enjoyed walking, word puzzles, and coffee time.  She also enjoyed and was very proud of her grandchildren.

   Thankful for sharing her life are her husband Al of Redfield; her children: Ronald (Loretta) Nichols of Baltic, SD, Douglas Nichols of Denver, CO, Bill Nichols of St. Petersburg, FL, David (Shawn) Nichols of Redfield, and Mike (Amy) Nichols of Sarasota, FL, Mark (Teri) Felchle of Harrold, SD, Marvalin (Rod) Job of Aberdeen, SD, Marilla Beck of League City, TX, and daughter-in-law Becky Felchle of Redfield; as well as 30 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brother David (Kelly) Hanson of Rapid City, SD and sister Diane Laforte of Kansas City, MO.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Roger Hanson, son Brian Felchle, parents-in-law, and brother-in-law Jerry.

   It was Shirley’s wish that memorials be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (1514 E 1st Street, Redfield, SD, 57469).
