NORFOLK -- Funeral service for Carol June Jessen, 85, of Norfolk will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Officiating the service will be Pastor Mike Gardner. The burial will be held at the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel. Carol passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Bel-Air Nursing Home in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk is in charge of the arrangements. Carol was born June 11, 1938, in Redfield, South Dakota to James and Olive (Emory) Booze. Carol attended school in Redfield. Carol married Jerry Jessen on June 20, 1955, in Redfield. To this union four children were born, Steven, Dale, Wade and Dawn. Carol started her career working at JC Penny’s and then went on to work at Ken’s Super Value. Carol and Jerry owned and operated a 24-hour truck stop restaurant in Redfield. The couple later expanded their business by opening a butcher shop behind the restaurant. Carol was a loving mother to their children while Jerry traveled for business. The couple moved to Norfolk in 1981. They started a family insurance business, Jessen’s Professional Insurance Agency. All their children came to work in the family-owned company, which made them very proud. Carol enjoyed camping and fishing, baking, especially her famous apple pies, playing cards, going to the casino, and spending time with her family. Carol was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be remembered for her love for her family.

Survivors include, children Steven (Darla) Jessen, Dale (Chris) Jessen, Wade (Jane) Jessen, and Dawn Jessen, all of Norfolk, 9 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, siblings Patty Weiss of Hot Springs, SD, Shirley (Ken) Gilbert of Redfield, SD, in-laws, Inez Booze of Redfield, South Dakota,  Arlen Jessen of Tulare, South Dakota, Richard (Cathy) Jessen of Tulare, and Rosemary (Richard) Tubandt of Tulare and many nieces and nephews. Carol was proceeded in death by her husband Gerald, parents James and Olive Booze, in-laws Hans and Tillie Jessen, grandson Christopher Jessen, 2 great-grand daughters Kennedy and Sadie, grandson in-law Wayne Mackeprang, siblings Wesley Booze, Kathryn Paradee, Dwayne (Velma) Booze, Evelyn Grayson, Grace Davis, Harold (Joan) Booze, Bob (Mavis) Booze, Raymond Booze, and Jean West, in-laws Art (Janet) Jessen, Darwin (Sharol) Jessen, Ray (Donna) Jessen, and Diane Jessen.

Casket bearers will be Anthony Jessen, Jared Jessen, Josh Swan, Ryan Stusse Sr., Ben Hanna, Micah Jessen, Keldon Loecker, and Ryan Stusse Jr. Honorary casket bears will be Kristel, Kandace, Leah, Amber, Adam, Kalee, Amy, Kay, Sara, Laura, Ashley, Kysa, Autumn, Ashton, Colton, Wesley, Willow, Vivica, Esabel, Octavia, Afftynn, Kael, Bria, Olivia, Emma, Jack, Rachel, Ellie, Sawyer, Finn, Millie, Piper, Paul, and Ethan.
