A two block high-speed chase, beginning at the corner of West 6th Avenue and 4th Avenue in Redfield on Tuesday, June 9 ended with a 22 year old Redfield woman being taken into custody and a string of damaged vehicles, and damage to the Redfield Alco Discount Store building.

Shortly after noon on Tuesday, the Spink county Sheriff’s office received a call from Casey’s General Store at the Jct. of Hwy. 212 & 281 in Redfield where a hit and run had taken place. Spink County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the South Dakota Highway Patrol caught up with the vehicle in question about ten minutes later after the driver allegedly drove through the South Dakota Developmental Center and, according to witnesses on Sixth Avenue, drove her car down that street stopping in front of a couple of residences.

At the corner, Spink County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to approach the stopped vehicle when the young lady began traveling down 4th Avenue at a great rate of speed. The vehicle crossed the bridge over Turtle Creek on 3rd Street West. As the vehicle rounded the corner on 3rd Street West, it is alleged that her vehicle entered the east side of the parking lot and hit the building and the parked cars of the Alco employees.

The woman was taken to Community Memorial Hospital where she was treated and then was released to the custody of the Spink County Sheriff’s Department. The woman who is being charged with DUI is out on bond. Full extent of the damage has not been released. Seven cars, including the one driven by the woman, were damaged in the incident.
