Redfield to hold Municipal Election

Posted: Friday, Mar 9th, 2012

With Friday, February 24th at 5pm the deadline to file nominating petitions for the open seats several candidates have thrown their hat into the ring.

In Redfield’s Ward I Incumbent Darrell Ronnfeldt is seeking re-election.

In Ward II there are three vying for the seat. Incumbent Norm Sihrer has filed his petition for re-election as well as challengers Mike Seibrecht and Heath Shottenkirk.

In Ward III incumbent Frank Schwartz was the lone filer.

In Ward IV two newcomers will be seeking election for the seat currently filled by Ken Avery. Running are Heather O’Daniel and Joe Morrissette.

For the position of Mayor three nominating petitions were filed. Incumbent Duane Sanger is seeking re-election and will be running against Pat Faegen and Jayme Aiken.

In other area vacancies nominating petitions were also due Friday. Because only current members have filed, no elections will be held in those towns.

For the City of Ashton Incumbent Bobbi Jo Lahr has filed her petition for the 1 year trustee position, Incumbent Peter Lahr for the 2 year position, and Incumbent Robert Oberfoell for the 3-year position.

In Tulare Incumbent Gene Stellmacher turned in his petition for the 3 year term seat.

In Mansfield Incumbent David Peterson has filed his petition for another term.

For the Hitchcock-Tulare School Board, Incumbents Tony Binger and Will Chaplin have filed petitions for seats for another 3-year term.

The City of Redfield election will be held April 10, 2012.

For those area residents who may have traveled out of state for the winter months or anyone wishing to vote absentee, an absentee ballot for the City of Redfield Municipal election can be obtained by requesting an absentee ballot from the Redfield City Hall.

To request an absentee ballot one needs to send a letter to the Election Official, Redfield City Hall, 626 Main Street, Redfield, SD 57469. The letter must include the persons name, their voter registration residential address, a copy of their driver’s license/photo id and state that their intent is to vote in the Municipal election. A current address where the ballot should be mailed must also be included in the letter. Each individual wishing to vote absentee must send an individual letter on their own behalf. All letters must be signed with a legible signature of the voter. It is also recommended to include a telephone number where the person can be reached in case of questions.
