Former Saks property cleared

Posted: Thursday, Feb 9th, 2012

The Redfield Corporation hired Turtle Creek Construction to knock down the old Modern Realty building and the newer portion of the former Saks building on Wednesday, January 25. A short 40 minutes later, both buildings were rubble piles waiting for the fire department to burn them in training exercises later that night. At 6:00 p.m. the fire department started their training which included live smoke rescue in the older portion of the Saks building. Later, with baking fronts and freezing backs, the building was lit on fire and observed until it was a smoldering pile. Pat Fuegen, Turtle Creek Construction, pushed the burned portion into one pile for safety purposes. The fire burned for a couple of days and will be hauled away to the dump once the embers die down. Redfield Corp., who owns the Saks corner, is currently pursuing a couple of different commercial possibilities that would result in 2012 construction.
