FORT PIERRE — A Dupree man has been identified as the man who died as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash 2 miles west of Fort Pierre on the afternoon of April 12.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado — Lawrence Woodward, 81 — was traveling on U.S. Highway 14 and crossed over into the oncoming lane. The driver of a 2010 Dodge Ram — Kellie Sipes, 53, of Mora, Minnesota — was in the oncoming lane and tried to swerve around to avoid the Silverado, but was unable to do so, resulting in a head-on collision, on the passenger side of each truck. Both drivers sustained injuries and were taken by Pierre AMR ambulance to St. Mary Hospital in Pierre for treatment.
Sipes sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt.
On April 27, Woodward died as a result of his injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.
